Veep Debate Fallout #1: “AMTRAK Joe” Lied About His Stance on Clean Coal
by Charles W. Fairbanks
During the Veep debate, “AMTRAK Joe” tried to deflect Sarah’s criticism of his energy policy by obscuring the issues. Make no mistake, the Obama-Biden team would, if elected, have to answer to their environmental extremist buddies, and other special interests that oppose development of American energy sources. Obama and “AMTRAK Joe” oppose true efforts at American energy independence.
During the Vice Presidential debate, Sarah Palin accomplished several things. For one, she proved that she could go toe-to-toe with career politician, “AMTRAK Joe” Biden. Sarah forced “AMTRAK Joe” into several “mistakes” by confronting him with his record. She forced his hand on energy independence by bringing up his September 17, 2008 comments in Marmee, Ohio that Obama-Biden would not allow coal electricity plants in America.
America is the Saudi Arabia of coal. We have vast coal reserves. Over the past one hundred years, we have developed clean coal technology. Clean coal technology is clean enough that the environmentalist Sierra Club has signed off on several clean coal plants. Through clean coal technology, we have virtually eliminated the pollution produced by the coal-fired plants of the industrial revolution. For some reason AMTRAK Joe doesn’t support clean coal.
When Governor Palin confronted him with those September 17 remarks, he lied his way out of the moment, stating that his remarks had been takent out of context. The transcript of the colloquy between a PERSON in a BIDEN public appearance follows:
PERSON: “Senator, Senator, wind and solar are flourishing here in Ohio, so why are you supporting clean coal?”
BIDEN: “Say ... I didn’t hear what you said.”
PERSON: “Wind and solar are flourishing here in Ohio, so why are you supporting clean coal?”
BIDEN: “We’re not supporting ‘clean coal.’ Guess what. China’s building two every week. Two dirty coal plants. And it’s polluting the United States. It’s causing people to die.”
PERSON: “So will you support wind and solar?”
BIDEN: “Absolutely. Before anybody did. The first guy to introduce a global warming bill was me, 22 years ago. The first guy to support solar energy was me, 26 years ago. It came out of Delaware. But guess what. China is gonna burn three hundred years of bad coal unless we figure out how to clean their coal up. Because it’s going to ruin your lungs and there’s nothing we can do about it. No coal plants here in America. Build them, if they’re going to build them over there make ‘em clean because they’re killing you.” (Joe Biden, Remarks, Maumee, OH, 9/17/08)

The fact is that when AMTRAK Joe and Senator Obama are alone with their liberal buddies, they speak their mind, but when they are speaking to you, the American people, they do their level best to obscure the fact that they are the single most liberal pair of candidates ever to run for the top two offices in the Republic. Buyer beware!

Government exists to protect us from each other. Where government has gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves.
